Hey guys
I’m Emma Lipson, I’m a junior and running for CGS Treasurer
High school is supposed to be memorable, partially because
of the friends you have and different activities. So let’s get more activities
so we can have more memories. Last year there were loads of ideas that were
never brought to life. Some were the CGS Olympics, a dance, and more field
trips. We also lost a lot of activities like the talent/art show, and movie
night. So let’s get these back. At the same time I realize that not all of ideas
are realistic and I will work to get as many activities without taking away
from scholarship funds. We shouldn't forget our schools mission. We can do more
fundraising, but most of the money should go to cultural things such as study
tours, field trips, and in school entertainment like Brazilian dancers. When
you talk to kids from other schools CGS is always impressive because we have
such an amazing life experience we offer all of our students. Other schools
don’t have this. So while it’s nice to think about updating to things like
tablets lets realize one of the main things that got people to come to this
school may hold more importance. Also there are plenty of things we can do that
won’t cost much. For example, watching a movie after school, snacks provided.
Anyone who comes could bring 5 dollars. We will raise money and we do more as a
school. Yes it’s not as great as hearing about getting everything we ever
wanted. However, this is an attainable goal for improving CGS.
So I have a promise. A promise that not only will I put all
I can into making these idea come to life, but other ideas you come up with as
well. A lot of us are busy or see no point in running for student government; I
know I've been there. That doesn't mean that you guys don’t care. As Treasurer
I want to be your voice so you guys can decide how to make this year memorable. CGS needs to represent all of its students, not a select few who all have the
same ideas. That is one of the reasons why I have not joined any of the groups
on stage. I am running independently for treasure because I want to work with
anyone and everyone who wants to make this a great year, including the people
who aren't on stage. You all have great ideas that deserve recognition. I’m
here almost every day after school and I’m here in the morning. I’d love to get
to know everyone in this room and hear what you think we can do. I’ll even do
my best to learn all of your names; those who know me can attest to how bad I
am when it comes to names. I am dedicated and willing to put in the work to
make it happen. That’s what is important about student government. Not deciding
how to improve the school, but listening to you guys and working behind the
scenes to make this year as great as we can for everyone.
This isn’t my school, this is our school.
